Revision
What is the rule of 10%?
The 10% Rule means that when energy is passed in an ecosystem from one trophic level to the next, only ten percent of the energy will be passed on.
( Pg 258 has the reason of the 10 % rule.)

Let us continue
Biological Magnification
It is the increase in concentration of toxins up the food chain,
The process by which the harmful & toxic substances reach the tissues of organisms at higher levels in a food chain.
It occurs when pollutants taken up by organisms at the base of the food chain reach high concentrations in the bodies of animals at the top of the food chain.
Food web
- Is formed by interconnections of different food chains.
- Is a graphical representation of ‘Who eats Whom’ in an ecosystem.
- Page 258 last point with a bullet.
Food webs consist of a number of food chains meshed together.

Ozone layer depletion
The ozone layer protects the earth from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
CFCs released into the atmosphere react chemically with ozone molecules and are depleting the layer.
Ozone is present at a very high level in the atmosphere. It blocks the UV radiation of sun. Ozone is a product of UV radiation.
At high level in the atmosphere the UV rays split the oxygen molecules to form oxygen atoms. These combine with oxygen molecules to form ozone.
Ozone causes skin cancer, cataract and reduces crop production.
